Two Tips On Pearl Shopping

Although a lot of people may say that diamonds are a girl's best friend, still a good number of women would prefer to sport a gorgeous pearl. Yes, there is a growing demand for pearls nowadays.

Through the pages of history, you will find that when a person owns or wears a pearl, he or she belongs to the more elite class. Pearls are often found to be the symbol of class and elegance due to its natural and brilliant beauty that captivates even the most artistic audiences.

This fascination on pearls has influenced a number of artists in the creation of famous stories like “The girl with the pearl earrings” and prominent paintings such as “The woman with a pearl necklace” by Jan Vermeer van Delft.

Nowadays, more and more women are wearing pearls and admit to having pearls as one of their most prized jewelry. If you want to go shopping to join these numerous women in their pearl craving or would want to add a few more pearls to your collection, do not forget to keep in mind these great pearl shopping tips.

* Identify the pearl that you want. There are basically four types of pearls. There are the natural pearls, the saltwater pearls, the cultured pearls and of course, the freshwater pearls. Natural pearls are what their name says; they are pure pearls created in the natural course of things and taken straight from a mollusk's shell. This type of pearls is very rare. Given the scarcity of these pearls, they typically come at a more expensive price. Cultured pearls on the other hand, get a little help from human acts. Unlike natural pearls which are created when the mollusk gets irritated and produces a tear, cultured pearls are created by inserting an object inside the shell. The other two types of pearls are named after the kind of mollusks that they come from, whether saltwater or be it freshwater.

* Be careful of fakes. Pearls can be easily imitated and if you are not careful, you may be tricked into buying a faux instead of the real thing. When a pearl is offered at a very low price, this could give you a clue on its genuineness. Obtaining natural or cultured pearls take time and money. If the seller can afford to offer it at below standard price, there must be an underlying reason for it and most of time, such is not so favorable so be very wary. In choosing a pearl, check its sheen. Good pearls generally have a shiny shell and provides for a clean and gleaming reflection on its surface. To better inspect the pearl, pearl experts advise that you set them on a smooth surface and examine them under a light. If a pearl is lackluster and faded, it might not be of very good quality. You can identify that a pearl is of premium and first class quality when you will find yourself seeing a rainbow of hues on its face.
